Urban and natural continuities
New urban and landscape development; Olot
Urbanism VI | ETSAB, UPC (Barcelona) | Spring 2017
In collaboration with Aina Marquès
Program: Planning and landscaping of a new neighbourhood
The main intention of this project is to link the river Riudaura with the city of Olot, currently being a forgotten and marginal place, so that it becomes the final protagonist of the intervention. In order to achieve this, an old route that originates in Olot's old town is continued through a new urban development that aims to preserve the atmosphere found in the small corners and open squares of the city. This new place is created as a synthesis between empty spaces and nature.
A new urban axis is created where housing is located, both conventional and social, and new facilities are proposed to complete the existing ones. Along with the previous urban axis, a wilder natural route is proposed. It begins as a botanical park and ends by connecting the riverside vegetation of the river Riudaura with the new green axis. In this way, the population lives and developes its activity in continuous transitional spaces between places of solid appearence and those others full of vegetation, being the latter an essential part of the intervention.
