History II | ETSAB, UPC (Barcelona) | Autumn 2015
[pdf text in spanish]
In collaboration with Adrián Juárez and Carlos Maestre
With the extension of the museum dedicated to the sculptural work of Antonio Canova, the Venetian architect highlights the sculptor's creative process by creating an art container where light and the position of the works in space play an essential role.
The research focuses on the intervention carried out by Carlo Scarpa in the Gypsotecha Antonio Canova, and it's structured in three parts; the first dedicated to research, the second to analysis and the third one to the interpretation of the building. The first part shows the study of different manuals, monographs and interviews on the Italian architect and the redrawing of the plans of the Gypsotheca. During the second part the case study is analyzed; emphasizing Scarpa's relationship with modern art and with the sculptor Canova. Finally, the work ends with an interpretation of the architect's work through a conceptual model.
The present work was carried out during the course of History II; a subject dedicated to the study of modern architecture from the late 19th and 20th centuries.
